DETAIL INFORMATION NEW PORTS IN ANDHRAPRADESH -
Andhra Pradesh is rapidly expanding its port infrastructure with several new greenfield ports set to transform the state into India’s eastern gateway. The three most advanced projects are Ramayapatnam Port in SPSR Nellore district, Machilipatnam Port in Krishna district, and Mulapeta Port in Srikakulam district, all targeted for completion by the end of 2026. Ramayapatnam is over 78% complete and will handle container and bulk cargo, with BPCL setting up a refinery nearby to drive bulk volumes. Machilipatnam, about 58% complete, is being developed as a deep-water port with plans for ship repair facilities. Mulapeta, the northernmost port near Bhavanapadu, is 75% complete and will serve cargo from Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. APM Terminals has signed a ₹9,000 crore MoU with the AP Maritime Board to develop modern terminals at all three ports, which together are expected to create 10,000 direct jobs and push the state’s cargo capacity from 195 MMTPA to 286 MMTPA, a 50%+ increase.
Beyond these, Kakinada Gateway Port is under construction with a March 2028 target, while the ambitious Dugarajapatnam port and shipbuilding cluster is moving ahead with land acquisition for 3,500 acres. That project aims to host a mega shipyard of 0.50 GT per year capacity and help make India a top-5 shipbuilding nation by 2047. The state government’s broader goal is to have a port or harbour every 50 km along its 1,053 km coastline, eventually reaching 20 ports. Other planned or captive ports include Kakinada SEZ Port, AM/NS Rajayapeta, Nizampatnam, Vodarevu, Narsapur, Meghavaram, and Nakkapalli. To support this, the state is also building fishing harbours at Juvvaladinne, Uppada, Nizampatnam, and Machilipatnam, with Phase-2 harbours planned at Budigatlapalem, Pudimadaka, and Kothapatnam for ₹690 crore. These new ports are part of AP’s “East-West Cargo Corridor” strategy to capture cargo from Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, MP, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, positioning the state as a major logistics hub.
