1 .Australia toughens kids’ social media ban
Australia will double penalties to A$99M for tech firms that fail to enforce the under-16 social media ban. The eSafety Commissioner gets stronger powers to demand proof from Meta, Google, TikTok, Snap and YouTube. A study found 85% of Aussies aged 12-15 still use social media 3 months after the ban took effect.
2. AI model access & US policy shifts
The US is close to letting Anthropic restore access to its Fable 5 model after a June 12 export control order.
The government already allowed Anthropic to release Claude Mythos 5 to some "trusted" US orgs, partially reversing the suspension.
