1 .Australia toughens kids’ social media ban

Australia will double penalties to A$99M for tech firms that fail to enforce the under-16 social media ban. The eSafety Commissioner gets stronger powers to demand proof from Meta, Google, TikTok, Snap and YouTube. A study found 85% of Aussies aged 12-15 still use social media 3 months after the ban took effect. 

2. AI model access & US policy shifts

The US is close to letting Anthropic restore access to its Fable 5 model after a June 12 export control order.

The government already allowed Anthropic to release Claude Mythos 5 to some "trusted" US orgs, partially reversing the suspension.

OpenAI named ex-Uber India president Prabhjeet Singh as India MD, and deferred public rollout of GPT-5.6 as the US seeks early access to frontier AI models

3. Chips & hardware crunch

Memory chip prices are up due to AI demand. Apple and Microsoft raised prices for Macs, iPads, Xbox consoles. Apple is seeking US approval to buy chips from blacklisted Chinese firm ChangXin Memory.

The FCC banned imports of more Chinese tech goods over national security, including gear for public safety.

China retook the supercomputer crown with "LineShine", beating US systems despite chip restrictions. 

4. Big tech moves

SpaceX set to join Nasdaq 100 on July 7, which could trigger $4.3B in passive inflows.

GameStop is still pushing its $56B takeover offer for eBay despite rejection.

Microsoft extended Windows 10 security updates for another year.

JioStar unveiled JAMS, an AI-native content production platform.

Phones: Vivo X Fold 6 launched with 7,000mAh battery, 8.02" Samsung M14 foldable display. Redmi Note 17 Pro specs leaked via 3C listing. OnePlus Nord CE 6 starts from ₹27,999.

Wearables: Rome is using €400M EU-funded smart bracelets for elderly health monitoring during heatwaves. Tracks heart rate, falls, sleep.

Gaming: ONMO+ cloud gaming platform launched in India with Pro Controller. GTA 6 pre-orders begin June 25 ahead of November launch.

TVs: Samsung launched 72 new Vision AI TVs in India for 2026, with Micro RGB, OLED, Neo QLED models starting at ₹36,

Reliance AGM: Mukesh Ambani pitched AI self-sufficiency as a national mission.

India's tech startups raised $7.2B in H1 2026, but deal volume dropped.
