The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimages to the cave shrine of Lord Shiva in the Kashmir Himalayas.
1. 2026 Dates & Duration
Start: July 3, 2026
End: August 28, 2026 on Raksha Bandhan
Total Duration: 57 days
Pratham Puja: June 29, 2026 on Jyeshtha Purnima 8df1
2. Registration
Starts: April 15, 2026
Registration is mandatory for all pilgrims 8df19f40
How to register:
Online: Through official Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) website + mobile app
Offline: At 554+ designated bank branches across India
Banks: J&K Bank, SBI, PNB, ICICI, Yes Bank, Axis Bank
On-spot: 18 counters in Jammu - Tawi Riverfront, Geeta Bhawan, Railway Station etc
Fee: ₹150 per pilgrimpilgrim.
Documents needed:
Yatra Registration Permit
RFID Card - mandatory for tracking
Government Photo ID
Compulsory Health Certificate CHC issued on/after April 8, 2026 .
Eligibility: Age 13 to 70 years only.
3. The Shrine
Location: 3,880 meters altitude in Anantnag district, Kashmir Himalayas
Significance: Houses a naturally formed ice stalagmite "Shivling" that waxes and wanes with the moon
Believed to be Lord Shiva's manifestation .
Routes to Amarnath Cave - 2026
1. Pahalgam - Nunwan Route
Distance: ∼34-48 km
Duration: 3 to 5 days
Details: Traditional and scenic route. Goes via Chandanwari, Sheshnag, Panchtarni
Best for: Pilgrims who want a slower, gradual trek
2. Baltal Route
Distance: ∼14 km
Duration: 1 day, same-day return possible
Details: Shorter but steeper trek
Best for: Pilgrims short on time

5. New Facilities & Safety 2026
RFID cards mandatory for all pilgrims
Insurance: Group accidental cover increased to ₹10 lakh
Security: X-ray screening, bomb disposal squads, dog squads, multi-layer security
Infrastructure: Widened tracks, improved bridges, grid power supply
Other: Yatri Niwas at Baltal, Pantha Chowk, Nunwan, pre-paid pony/palki system.
6. Important Tips
Book early - Slots close 7 days in advance, first-come first-served
Medical fitness is important due to high altitude terrain
First batch flag-off from Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu on July 2 .
