FSSAI HAS ISSUED NOTICES TO BEVERAGES

Who got notices

FSSAI named 6 beverage brands for misbranding and misleading claims:

Red Bull Energy Drink

PepsiCo India – Adrenaline Rush Energy Drink and Sting Energy Drink

Reliance Consumer Products – Campa Energy Drink-Gold Boost

Hell Energy – Hell Drink

Coca-Cola-backed Monster Energy aa9becb7476f

Why FSSAI flagged them

No standard for "energy drink": FSSAI says it has not notified any standard for "energy drink" or similar products under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Labeling misuse: The brands used "energy drink" on product branding/labeling, but FSSAI’s Food Category System isn't meant for product naming.

Banned claims: Functional/therapeutic claims are not allowed for food products. FSSAI called out claims like:

"vitalizes body and mind"

"enhancing focus"

"boost energy levels"

"aid in general weakness" .

What happens next

This is part of FSSAI's wider crackdown on misbranding and misleading ads by food companies. They've been informing consumers via Instagram and X. The companies haven't commented yet. .

Market context

India’s energy-drinks market was $1.5B in 2025, projected to hit $2.9B by 2034. FSSAI did a similar move last year, barring sugar-based rehydration drinks from calling themselves ORS unless they met WHO formula.
